Stop Using Your Crappy Selfie Camera – Use this Wireless Display to Unlock Your Smartphone Rear Cameras

If you do a lot of vlogging or selfie videos then you are probably using the front facing or selfie camera. This is generally the worst camera on the phone but we use it to make sure our framing and lighting is correct.

The solution is a back screen unless you have a foldable phone or rotating camera array. But most of us don’t.

That’s where the Newmowa Vlog Screen comes in and it’s a great solution for creators. It’s a battery-powered wireless display that’s made for iPhone but works fine on the latest Samsung phones too. I tested both in the video above. It cost me A$110 through Amazon but I’m sure you can find it cheaper.

Although it has a magnetic back, it’s not a MagSafe device. It comes with a phone mount which is where the screen attached to. The great thing about a wireless screen is flexibility. You can pull off some really creative shots because you can frame your shot from a distance with the display in your hand.

You can use your Apple Watch for similar control but it’s cumbersome, small and frankly not as good. The Newmowa screen also comes with a small bluetooth remote control which has a range of around 10 metres or 33 feet.

The universal phone mount holds large phones like the iPhone 16 Pro Max or Samsung 24 Ultra and the image flips when you flip the phone. But if you’re using a phone rig, you may struggle to fit it in.

I’m currently doing a review video so I’ll report back soon about battery life. The USB-C port is for charging only, unfortunately you can’t connect directly for a video feed.

Although I’m finding this wireless display extremely useful, it’s definitely not for everybody. Once you start recording you’ll get some choppy video and if you are using it while streaming, you’ll encounter a larger delay. That’s because you’ll have to change from a direct Wi-Fi connection. I couldn’t get it to work over the net so I gave up.

But for videos that will be sent or edited later, this is a great device for the price.
