BlackBerry KEY2 is slicker and worth a second look

My early smartphones were palm or windows handsets so I avoided using BlackBerry until 2006. Although the 8707v was an email champion I was left frustrated by the lack of multimedia capabilities.

The BIG bonus was the keyboard. To this day, to me, that keyboard remains king.

The reborn Android powered BlackBerry doesn’t have the same key separation but it’s still a winner and it has plenty of multimedia capabilities.

TCL Communication launched the upgraded BlackBerry KEY2 running Android 8.1 Oreo. Dual 12MP cameras offer improved auto white balance, faster auto focus, improved image stabilisation, new capture modes, like Portrait Mode and Optical Superzoom.

Google Lens is also integrated. There’s a new Speed Key, a universal shortcut key that now makes it possible to access the apps, contacts and functions you use most from anywhere on your device at any time.

The Keyboard is pretty clever with all sorts of swipe moves and there’s a fingerprint scanner that doubles as the spacebar.Key height on the KEY2 has been increased by 20 percent and the display is 4.5 inch.

BlackBerry KEY2 should offer up to two days battery life, 6GB of memory and in both 64GB and 128GB storage variants – with both offering expandable storageIt has MicroSD support, a Qualcomm® Snapdragon processor, Quick Charge™ 3.0 .www.BlackBerryMobile.com.
