OpenAI has unveiled a new mid-tier subscription for ChatGPT, aimed squarely at developers and power users who rely on its coding capabilities. Priced at AUD $155 per month, the new Pro tier is designed to support the rapid growth of Codex, the platform’s built-in coding agent that’s increasingly becoming central to how people build and maintain software.

According to OpenAI, more than three million users now tap Codex each week—a figure that’s grown fivefold in just three months. The tool can write and fix code, answer technical questions, and even juggle multiple development tasks at once, making it a serious productivity boost for developers.

BETTER CODING MODELS

The new Pro plan offers five times more Codex usage compared to the existing Plus subscription, along with access to advanced Pro-only models and unlimited use of both Instant and Thinking AI modes. It’s positioned as a step up for those tackling longer, more complex coding workflows, while the AUD $30/month Plus plan remains the entry point for everyday users. For those needing even more capacity, OpenAI’s existing AUD $300/month Pro tier still sits at the top end.

OpenAI is also taking aim at competitors like Claude Code, claiming Codex delivers more coding capacity per dollar—particularly noticeable during heavy, active development sessions.

Beyond pricing, the company highlighted strong growth on the business side. Enterprise adoption now makes up over 40% of OpenAI’s revenue and is expected to match consumer usage by 2026. With APIs processing more than 15 billion tokens per minute and newer models driving more complex, agent-based workflows, AI is increasingly becoming embedded in day-to-day operations across industries.

CHATGPT ON CARPLAY

For everyday users, there’s also a notable new feature rolling out: ChatGPT Voice is now available in Apple CarPlay. Compatible with devices running iOS 26 or later, the update lets users interact with ChatGPT hands-free while driving. Once installed, you can launch the app directly through Apple CarPlay and have natural voice conversations—whether that’s asking questions, brainstorming ideas, or even practising a new language on the go.

The CarPlay feature is available globally, including in Australia, and works across free, paid, and enterprise ChatGPT plans—making it one of the most accessible ways yet to bring AI into everyday routines.
