Samsung’s latest M9 Smart Monitor is now available in Australia and it is stunning thanks to its 4K 32-inch glare-free QD-OLED panel. Image Matrix Tech spent a whole day with a bunch of the company’s new gaming displays including one we can’t mention .. yet. I’ll get to the 3D display shortly but he are some first impressions of the M9.
M9 SMART MONITOR (M90F) 32″

Samsung’s M9 Smart Monitor is the ultimate all rounder when it comes to gaming, TV viewing and productivity. But this year’s M9 is even better given it’s now a QD-OLED panel. Quantum Dot OLED panels produce the richest colours and contrast compared with any other screen technology. You’ll pay more than $2000 for the M9 but the M8 and M7 monitors are less than one thousand dollars.
“The Smart Monitor series continues to evolve to meet the needs of Australian consumers who are looking for premium monitor experiences that provide the best outcomes whether they are using it for work, entertainment or gaming,” said Neal Elliott, Acting Head of ProDisplay, Samsung Electronics Australia.
“In pairing the best of Samsung’s QD-OLED display technology with the latest Samsung Vision AI features, the Smart Monitor M9 delivers a personalised experience with high picture quality and endless entertainment features, enabling Australians to work, watch and play in style, all within a single, versatile display.”

The chance of burn-in is greatly reduced thanks to Samsung OLED Safeguard+. It helps maintain screen integrity over time with a proprietary cooling system. Just like its bigger TVs, the M9 also features a Glare-Free coating to dramatically reduce reflections. The more I see this, the more I like it. Yes, there’s a drop in contrast in some lighting conditions but overall I’d say you’re better off.
The M9 is powered by AI Picture Optimiser, 4K AI Upscaling Pro and Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) Pro, which work together to enhance picture and sound quality in real time based on content and surroundings. The M9 is also an entertainment hub with access to popular streaming apps, Samsung TV Plus and Samsung Gaming Hub for cloud gaming. I played several games including one of my favourites, Far Cry 5. The M9 is also a strong performer for gaming consoles and PCs. The 165Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms response time (GtG) makes the M9 an excellent display even for serious gamers.

The M9 looks very sleek with a slim metal design. The Smart Monitor M9 has also earned a Pantone Validated certification from Pantone. Samsung offers up to seven years of One UI Tizen upgrades for the Smart Monitor lineup.
But as wonderful as the M9 is, I found it hard to drag myself away from the Odyssey 3D, a glasses-free experience. I got a taste of the technology at Samsung’s IFA display last year. It was promising then, but now that I’ve been able to immerse myself in a game tailor-made for 3D, I’m hooked. I’ll have more to say in a review video soon.
