When OPPO’s midrange Reno13 Series lands in Australia on March 27, it should be a strong seller. On Weekend Edition we exclusively showed all three models for the first time in Australia and their special underwater functionality.

With IP69 Water and Dust Resistance, these phones can be submerged in freshwater up to 2 metres deep for 30 minutes. After the segment I tried it out in my own pool, very cool.

The Reno13 Series supports underwater photo and video recording. All models feature a dedicated Underwater Mode with independent colour tuning for distortion-free, lifelike shots, and physical button control for easy underwater operation. Additionally, an advanced one-tap drainage mechanism expels water from the device within seconds to maintain optimal performance.

The trio is pretty good value, Reno13 Pro 5G (A$1,299), Reno13 5G (A$899), and Reno13 F 5G (A$599).

“This is the Reno Series like you’ve never seen it before. With the technology inside, there’s absolutely nothing ‘mid’ about these smartphones,” said Michael Tran, OPPO Australia’s Managing Director.

“We’re packing 5,800mAh and 5,600mAh batteries, up to 80W flash charging, an IP69 rating, advanced camera systems, and an entire suite of AI features. Starting from $599, this isn’t just a new era for the Reno Series; it’s a new standard for the mid-range category.”

I think Tran has a point. In the very short time I’ve had to play with the Pro model, I’ve really enjoyed it. But the middle model, the Reno13 5G, is the best value at just A$899.

The Reno13 Pro 5G and Reno13 5G feature a One-piece Sculpted Glass back and an Aerospace-grade Aluminum Frame. They’re stylish and tough.

The Reno13 Pro 5G and Reno13 5G feature a 1.5K OLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate and a 93.8% and 93.4% screen-to-body ratio respectively.

Out of the water the Reno13 Series takes some pretty nice pictures.

The Reno13 Pro 5G has a 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera (Sony IMX890), a 50MP Telephoto Camera with 3.5x optical zoom, an 8MP Ultra-Wide Camera, and a 50MP Selfie Camera. On the Reno13 Pro 5G and Reno13 5G, both the front and rear cameras support 4K video recording.

AI Livephoto offers dynamic photography with ultra-clear, high-definition images. Using EIS stabilisation and dynamic frame expansion technology, the feature minimises frame drops while enhancing image sharpness to create one of the smoothest and most reliable Livephoto experiences yet.

Alongside these features, the Reno13 Series’ AI Editor introduces a suite of tools:

  • AI Motion leverages advanced generative AI to transform still images into vibrant three-second videos, making any photo into a dynamic Livephoto.
  • AI Clarity Enhancer sharpens distant scenery to make even far-off objects like landscapes or architectural details appear crystal clear.
  • AI Unblur brings clarity to previously blurry photos, ensuring every moment is captured with lifelike precision.
  • AI Reflection Remover eliminates glass reflections, allowing users to capture scenery through windows with minimal interference.

The Reno13 Series also takes a big step in removing compatibility barriers between different smartphone ecosystems. Through the all-new Tap-to-Share feature, the phones are among the first Android devices to support direct sharing of Livephotos with iOS devices with NFC capability.

Equipped with a custom MediaTek Dimensity 8350 mobile platform optimised in partnership with MediaTek, the Reno13 Pro 5G and Reno13 5G deliver a smoother, more agile gaming experience, high-definition photography, and robust support for advanced AI features. Built on a cutting-edge 4nm process, the Dimensity 8350 features an 8-core CPU configuration with a main frequency of up to 3.35GHz, offering a 20% boost in performance while reducing peak power consumption by 30%.

Gaming sessions are further enhanced by an AI Multi-Cooling System featuring an expanded Vapor Chamber. On the Reno13 Pro 5G, the VC area has been doubled over the previous generation.  Intelligent algorithms have also been added to dynamically manage temperature for consistent performance during long gaming sessions.

The Reno13 series also introduces AI LinkBoost 2.0, OPPO’s latest connectivity solution, featuring eleven strategically placed antennas in a 360° configuration to enhance signal reception. The intelligent system dynamically adjusts network priority to keep users connected even in busy and crowded environments.

For battery and charging, the Reno13 Pro 5G and Reno13 5G are equipped with 5,800mAh and 5,600mAh batteries respectively plus support for OPPO’s 80W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge technology. Both high endurance batteries are designed to offer extended lifespans without compromising performance by maintaining at least 80% of their original capacity after five years of use2. While the Reno13 F 5G boasts a 5,800mAh battery with OPPO’s 45W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge.
