Samsung Galaxy Ring Now Available for $699 in Australia

0

The Samsung Galaxy Ring is now available in Australia for AUD $699. Samsung’s smallest wearable comes in nine size options and three colour choices – Titanium Silver, Titanium Black and Titanium Gold.

The Ring sensors include an Accelerometer, PPG (heart rate) and Skin Temperature. It will last up to seven days before the battery needs recharging.

“We’re very excited to be bringing the Galaxy Ring to Australians, and to be the first market to launch in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region,” Kylie Mason, Head of Wearables at Samsung Australia.

“Australia ranks amongst the most health conscious countries in the world, and we believe that Australians will embrace Galaxy Ring as a new option for a simplified and more consistent wellness tracking experience.

“By combining the AI-powered Galaxy Ring with Samsung Health, you can enjoy a personalised and secure intelligent health experience with detailed, data driven insights.”

At launch the Galaxy Ring is only available from samsung.com.au or from Samsung Experience Stores.

We chatted with the Samsung team yesterday and there were a couple of things that we found important.

Although this tiny wearable can track movement and heart rate it’s main purpose is sleep tracking.

It will work with other Android phones but you must install the Samsung Health app. You will have some added functionally if you pair the Ring to a Samsung phone.

RING SIZING KIT

You need a sizing kit due to the unique nature of a smart ring. You get one once you pay for the ring.

One you have a kit – do the following.

  1. Pick a size, try it on. Check the position of the three sensors on the bottom and the indicator on the outer surface. Wear the sample ring so that the sensors are facing up. Make sure the indicator is also on the palm side.
  2. When you find one that feels right, move your fingers around. Finger sizes can change from day to night, so it’s recommended to keep the ring on for at least 24 hours. Go about your day and sleep through the night.
  3. If your finger feels comfortable after 24 hours, that’s your Galaxy Ring size.

You should also know that Samsung allows returns of the Ring even when the box is opened and you try it on. You’ll find much more flexibility when it comes to purchasing the Ring due to the personal nature of the device.

I also found that the maximum size was just big enough for me and I don’t think my fingers are that large. I expect Samsung to offer larger sizes in the near future.

And if you’re wondering what the most popular colour is? It’s black and by a long way.
