Staggering Cost of Pets Mischief Revealed as Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera Comes to the Rescue

A growing number of Australian pet owners are turning to technology to keep tabs on their furry friends when away from home. But pets can be tricky and not all cameras are up to the task. Enter the Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera.

For just A$129 the Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera includes full HD Video with Colour Night Vision and Two-Way Talk so you can see and speak to your kids and check what your pets are doing, day or night. So it’s not just pets – it works for people too – but pets are far more interesting.

The key to this camera is the tilt. When static, its field of view is 143° diagonal, 115° horizontal, 59° vertical. However when in motion the camera can scan an area of 143° diagonal, 360° pan coverage and 169° tilt coverage. This enables the Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera to cover blind spots that would not be visible with a locked-off wide angle lens.

“We love our pets so it’s only natural to want the reassurance that they’re okay when you’ve popped out,” said Mark Fletcher, Ring Managing Director, APAC.

“Checking on your pet with an indoor camera and using Ring’s Two-Way Talk feature to calm them or stop them scratching at the couch can give owners that much-needed peace of mind. Whether you’re a paw-rent to a well-behaved feline or a lively pup that snacks on your favourite socks, our pets should always feel safe, comfortable, and not be left for too long.”

Ring commissioned a nation-wide survey of pet owners which found the staggering cost of pets getting into mischief – runs into the millions.

  • 83% report their pet gets up to no good when they’re not home with canine crimes outweighing feline felonies.
  • These pet-ty crimes are costing pet-owning households hundreds of millions worth of household damage annually – $222m for dog-owning households and $153m for cat-owning households.
  • Lying somewhere they’re not allowed (46%), urinating/fouling indoors (45%), scratching at furniture (42%) and chewing on clothing items (41%) are the top “pet-ty crimes” of unsupervised pets.
  • Over two thirds of pet owners (68%) report feelings of anxiety when away from their pets, with 79% using smart home tech for their benefit as a reassuring window back home.

International Dog Day is tomorrow – Monday 26 August. So don’t be too hard on your family pooch, especially when you see what they do in the table below – compared to cats.

If you want privacy, there’s a manual slide cover on the Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera. It can positioned on a table or mounted on a wall or ceiling. When the Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera senses movement, you’ll get notified on your phone and with Advanced Pre-Roll, you’ll capture motion a few seconds early to help show the whole event. Like the sneaky cat below.

You can choose specific areas you want to cover to help reduce unnecessary alerts. There’s also a siren you can activate from the Ring app to scare off intruders or break up a cat fight.

The Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera is now available for A$129 in white or black and you will need a subscription to store your videos.
