The LEGO Group has revealed its most playful leap forward in years, unveiling LEGO SMART Play — a brand-new way for LEGO creations to react, respond and surprise, all while keeping play firmly off screens and in kids’ hands.
Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2026, LEGO SMART Play brings a little bit of magic to classic brick building. Creations can now respond to how they’re played with, unlocking sounds, reactions and moments that make play feel alive — without changing what LEGO does best. You still build with bricks, you still imagine the story, but now your creations play back.

At the heart of LEGO SMART Play is a new smart brick that blends invisibly into builds, working alongside special minifigures and tags to add layers of surprise and discovery. The clever part? Kids don’t need apps, phones or tablets. Everything happens through physical play, keeping the experience hands-on, creative and open-ended — and fully compatible with existing LEGO pieces.
To kick things off, LEGO is heading straight to one of its most beloved universes. The first LEGO SMART Play sets will launch as part of the Star Wars range, turning iconic ships, characters and scenes into interactive adventures. Lightsabers hum, engines roar, and classic moments react as kids rebuild famous battles or invent entirely new ones of their own. For the first time, a galaxy far, far away… really does play back.
Three all-in-one LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets will launch on 1 March 2026, including Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, and the epic Throne Room Duel with A-Wing. Each set includes everything needed to get started, with smart bricks, minifigures and tags included in the box. Pre-orders open on 9 January, with Australian pricing starting from AU$99.99 and rising to AU$249.99 for the largest set.

LEGO says SMART Play is just the beginning, with plans to expand the platform over time through new sets, features and surprises. For families, it feels like a natural evolution of LEGO play — adding energy and interactivity without losing imagination, creativity or that unmistakable LEGO charm.
LEGO SMART Play launches globally on 1 March 2026 through LEGO Stores, LEGO.com and select retailers, inviting builders of all ages to rediscover just how alive their LEGO worlds can be.
