United States President, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order renaming AI (Artificial Intelligence) to SI (Super Intelligence). The order follows the President’s speech at the United Nations where introduced the name upgrade to the world.
“The terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” and will not acknowledge the usage of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in any applicable setting,” wrote President Donald Trump.
The order explained that AI is no longer an applicable name because, “The capabilities of today’s frontier systems do much more than imitate or automate discrete aspects of human intelligence. They increasingly amplify human ingenuity and unlock new forms of creativity, empowering Americans to achieve what was previously impossible across science, medicine, and nearly every other domain of human endeavor. As these capabilities continue to improve, they increasingly represent not merely artificial intelligence, but a new era of Super Intelligence.”
The US will adopt the new term in official communications but won’t change the historic use of AI. It remains to be seen if American AI companies also change to the new naming directive. Will OpenAI become OpenSI?
An interesting consequence has seen a surge in Slovenian domain registrations. Reports claim that .si demand has increased from 3,500 per month to almost 4,000 per day.
