Amazon has revealed a comprehensive redesign of its Kindle e-reader portfolio, introducing thinner, lighter profiles, wrap-around edge-to-edge colour, and a newly developed reverse stack display construction.

As distraction-free reading continues to gather momentum—Kindle has logged double-digit global growth for three consecutive years, with readers turning more than 720 billion pages in 2025 alone—the tech giant has overhauled its hardware from the ground up. Across the entire generation, raised bezels have been completely eliminated in favour of a seamless, flush-front display, alongside an updated colour palette that introduces Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite, and Fig.

The All-New Kindle

The standard 6-inch Kindle arrives as the most compact iteration Amazon has ever produced, equipped with 16GB of onboard storage, up to six weeks of battery life, and book opening speeds that are 30% faster than the previous generation.

The Kindle has new colours

Achieving its smooth flush-front aesthetic required an engineering overhaul of how the front light, touch sensors, and display layers are assembled and bonded. Environmental considerations feature heavily in the chassis, which is crafted from recycled materials and powered by a 100% recycled cobalt battery. For the first time, Amazon has also introduced an aluminium variant of the entry-level reader, wrapping the 6-inch chassis in an 80% recycled aluminium matte backplate and doubling onboard capacity to 32GB.

Kindle Paperwhite

Designed for extended reading sessions, the refreshed Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, retains full waterproofing, and features an adjustable warm light paired with up to 12 weeks of battery endurance on a single charge.

THe Paperwhite is ideal for outdoor reading

The screen is built on an oxide-thin film transistor (TFT) backplane, resulting in the largest Paperwhite screen to date with the highest contrast ratio in the series, ensuring deep blacks and crisp text in both direct sunlight and dark environments. Stepping up within the tier, the Paperwhite Signature Edition introduces an aluminium rear casing, expands storage to 32GB, and adds an auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging, and a double-tap gesture to turn pages, all within a slimmer form factor.

Kindle Colorsoft

Last but not least, the newly announced Kindle Colorsoft delivers a paper-like colour reading experience engineered to eliminate the glare and fatigue typical of standard tablet panels, making it suited to comics, graphic novels, travel guides, and book cover browsing. The display relies on a light guide embedded with nitride LEDs that boosts colour saturation and brightness without washing out fine detail, supported by an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for rapid performance across both colour and monochrome text.

The Kindle Colorsoft is one of the most immersive devices yet

Amazon has also implemented reverse printing techniques for edge-to-edge hues, micro-deflectors to reduce stray light, and an ultra-thin optical coating to maximise clarity. The top-tier Colorsoft Signature Edition augments the hardware with an aluminium enclosure, 32GB of storage, auto-adjusting lighting, pogo-pin dock charging, and double-tap page turning.

Pricing and Availability

The standard 6-inch Kindle starts at A$279 in Ube and Graphite with 16GB of storage, while the 32GB aluminium version is priced at A$299 in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green. The Kindle Paperwhite begins at A$369 for the 16GB base model in Graphite, with the 32GB Paperwhite Signature Edition priced at A$399 in Graphite and Seaglass Green. For colour reading, the Kindle Colorsoft starts at A$449 for 16GB in Graphite, with the Colorsoft Signature Edition available for A$499 in Graphite and Fig.

Accompanying the readers is an updated accessory ecosystem, led by the Kindle Click Bluetooth page-turning remote for A$49.95, a magnetic Page-Turn Cover featuring physical buttons for A$119.95, a dedicated pogo-pin Charging Dock for A$89.95, and protective covers made from knit fabric, pebbled leather, or bio-based plant leather starting from A$54.95.

WIth massive battery life, the new Kindle range is perfect for a quiet weekend away

The all-new Kindle is available in Australia starting today, while the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Colorsoft, and associated accessories are available for pre-order via Amazon.com.au and leading national retailers.

Conclusion

Amazon’s latest Kindle overhaul represents the most substantial design evolution the e-reader category has seen in years, addressing long-standing hardware boundaries with flush glass, metal construction, and colour E Ink.

By pairing thinner, lighter profiles with practical ecosystem accessories like wireless page turners and contact-pin charging, Amazon has removed everyday reading friction across its entry, midrange, and premium tiers. At a time when screen fatigue and digital distractions are driving record engagement with dedicated reading hardware, this refreshed Australian lineup solidifies the Kindle’s role as an essential tool for uninterrupted reading.
