Auto Backup from Any Source with Synology BeeStation Plus

4 Min Read

Synology has announced the launch of BeeStation Plus, a new addition to its personal cloud storage lineup, designed to offer increased capacity and expanded capabilities for users seeking a simple yet powerful way to manage their digital lives. The BeeStation Plus aims to provide a cloud-like experience without requiring advanced storage or networking knowledge, catering to the growing demand for larger storage and more versatile applications.

The BeeStation lineup was designed to let everyday users benefit from a cloud-like environment without needing advanced storage or networking knowledge,” Said Mayi, Product Manager at Synology.

“Since launching the first BeeStation, we’ve seen strong interest from people looking for larger storage capacity and expanded capabilities, to run more applications and better support families and teams working and sharing together. BeeStation Plus is our answer to those needs.”

ALL YOUR FILES AND PHOTOS, ALWAYS WITHIN REACH

A key feature of the BeeStation Plus is its ability to automatically back up photos and files from various sources, including phones, computers, cloud photo libraries, and external storage, consolidating them into one central location. The device features built-in local AI, enabling users to instantly find photos of specific people or subjects without sending any data to the cloud, ensuring ongoing privacy. Personal files, schoolwork, and projects can also be easily organised and accessed, whether they originate from cloud drives, external drives, or computers. This centralised approach simplifies browsing, enables smarter searches, and delivers faster sharing.

Key specifications of the BeeStation Plus include a capacity of 8 TB and an Intel Celeron J4125 processor, complemented by 4 GB of DDR4 memory. The product dimensions are 148.0 x 62.6 x 196.3 mm, and it weighs 1.3kg. For network connectivity, it features one 1GbE RJ-45 LAN port; perhaps a missed opportunity, given that 2.5GbE is now becoming more prevalent among home users.

The BeeStation Plus offers connectivity through one USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port and one USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port. Its power consumption is 2.83 W during HDD hibernation and 14.75 W during access, and a 3-year warranty covers the device.

For media enthusiasts, BeeStation Plus comes with built-in Plex Media Server support. This allows users to transform their media collection into a personal streaming library, storing movies, TV shows, and home videos in one place. Content can be seamlessly accessed on TVs, phones, or tablets, both at home and on the go; as a Plex user, this is a significant advantage for content consumption.

Synology has prioritised data protection with the BeeStation Plus. The device combines snapshot-based restore points with a complimentary three-month BeeProtect cloud backup subscription. This combination aims to make a comprehensive 3-2-1 backup strategy (three copies of data, on two different media, with one offsite) achievable in minutes. BeeProtect is designed for affordable off-site backup, helping users recover their data in the event of theft or disaster, with end-to-end encryption ensuring only the owner can decrypt and access their files. But keep in mind that if you don’t subscribe, you’re still vulnerable to the disastrous effects of a drive failure: Make sure you have appropriate backup solutions for your critical data!

BeeStation Plus is available for purchase starting today on the Synology website and through official partners and resellers worldwide. Pricing is yet to be confirmed at the time of publishing, but once that is known, this article will be updated.
