One of the most popular displays at Samsung’s IFA booth this year was the The Premiere projector lounge. I was in awe of the Samsung Premiere 8K – a wireless projector with insane resolution.
Inside you could also see the soon-to-be-released, The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 Laser Projectors. These low profile, ultra-short throw projectors, deliver bright 4K video from right up against the wall where they are placed. Both projectors include AI Upscaling and Vision Booster which help in lighter conditions with a maximum brightness of 3,450 ISO lumens for The Premiere 9 and 2,500 ISO lumens for The Premiere 7.
“We’re trying to keep up with this insatiable demand for big screens and you know the benefit of Premiere projectors and things like that is that you can get that 110 inch to that 130 inch experience,” Jeremy Senior, Vice President – Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Australia, explained to Image Matrix Tech.
“And now with the short throw projectors and 8K technology the resolution is so great you could be staring at a large big screen TV but the benefit is you can turn it off and you can revert your home back to whatever you would like it to be.”
The Premiere 9 uses triple laser technology for enhanced colour accuracy and brightness for 4K resolution on screens up to 130-inches while The Premiere 7 displays an image up to 120-inches.
They provide colour gamut coverage of 154% (Premiere 9) and 100% (Premiere 7) of the DCI-P3 standard. Both models support HDR10+ but as with all Samsung TVs – no Dolby Vision. The Premiere series uses AI Upscaling to improve SD and other lower resolution video for a more pleasant viewing experience.
Although there were plenty of soundbar options on display at IFA, The Premiere projectors have built-in speakers with Dolby Atmos, creating a home cinema experience without the need for additional audio gear. The Premiere 9 features 40W 2.2.2 channel up-firing speakers, while The Premiere 7 includes 30W 2.2ch speakers.
Samsung projectors like the new Premiere series ship with Samsung Tizen OS Home which offers Samsung TV Plus, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and more. This means you’ll be up and running immediately.
Gamers are also catered for via Samsung Gaming Hub. Users can enjoy games without the need for a console, accessing a wide choice of cloud-based games directly through the projector.
As laser projectors have a far longer life, they can also be ideal for decorating your home with light. Custom Ambient offers personalised decorations by projecting various widgets onto the living space. Users can combine photos, videos and widgets freely via the SmartThings app on their mobile phones.
The Premiere projector can also be used as a Smart speaker without the display on.
And when it comes to design, the Premiere series is are very compact. Ultra-short throw projectors are ideal for areas with little room or mounting points where you would traditionally place longer throw devices. These units feature a minimalist, warm white design with rounded edges and a premium fabric finish from Kvadrat, a Danish textile design company.

Samsung says the The new Premiere 9 and Premiere 7 projectors will commence to roll out in Australia over the coming months.
