Set your alarms people, the date has been set for the iPhone 15 Apple event. The invite, titled “Wunderlust” went out this morning Australian time.
The event will be held on the 12th of September, 2023 at 10am Pacific Time at Apple HQ in California. That means a 3am start for east coast Australians on the 13th of September. Nothing new for us!
On Sky News last weekend I covered some of the rumoured changes Apple will make to the iPhone 15. Some of these are based on solid intel and some are wishful thinking. Let’s go through a few.
NAME CHANGE
We are expecting four phones like iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and newly named iPhone 15 Ultra (instead of Pro Max) – maybe?
NEW CAMERAS
The camera upgrades could be significant. The cheaper models could receive an upgrade with the 48mp sensor currently seen in the Pro versions.
When is comes to the Ultra/Pro Max we are likely to see a larger zoom lens. The speculation is 5x or 6x but for maximum impact I’m hoping to see a 10x optical zoom that matches Samsung’s outstand S23 Ultra. It is the missing link in Apple’s camera evolution.
The top of the line model could also ship with a larger 48mp sensor, possibly the largest ever.
USB-C
Thanks to EU laws we should see the swapping out of the Lightning Port for USB-C. I cannot wait. Apple already uses USB-C in its laptops and tablets so this will complete the long awaited transition to a one-cable utopia.
NOW WE WAIT
Of course, we’re still hoping for surprises and that may come on the Apple Watch front. The Apple Watch is my favourite Apple device. Let’s see what September brings.
