In an age dominated by digital photography it’s heartwarming to see renewed interest in old school technology like Polaroid’s instant cameras. The Polaroid Flip will be available in Australia from Tuesday, 13th May for A$399. It fuses the latest point-and-shoot tech with instant printing for a nostalgic trip down photo lane.
The low-res, analogue experience you get from a Polaroid is all part of the charm. You are not buying this camera for a 100MP billboard image. You are buying it for the moment. Something physical you can walk away with or share without the need for a digital device. The Flip might be based on old tech but it’s ultra modern where it counts, the image capture.
Although the camera is a reasonable price, the film is not. An i-Type colour film 8 pack sells for A$29.95 and that works out as A$3.75 per photo! Fortunately the Polaroid Flip will give you plenty of warnings if it thinks your photo is going to stink. Therefore, saving you money.
POLAROID FLIP FEATURES

- Scene Analysis: A smart feature that alerts users when a shot is over or underexposed via the viewfinder LED or the external ‘lid’ display.
Other features include USB-C charging, a neck strap, and compatibility with Polaroid i-Type and 600 film. Using Bluetooth, the Flip links to the Polaroid App, unlocking additional creative tools like double exposure, a self-timer mode, and manual setting controls to give users even more creative freedom.
