MG Motor Australia has unveiled a wide range of new vehicles at the Melbourne Motor Show, including an expansion of its EV lineup. Most notable is the appearance of the MG U9 EV and MG U9 Black Edition. The diesel-powered MG U9 made an impressive debut in Australia last year, but the EV is generating huge interest given the crippling cost of diesel at the moment.

The U9 EV is expected to deliver a driving range of 430km if it’s anything like the LDV eTerron 9. No timeline yet on the availability of the new MG utes, but I’ll be bringing you plenty of video when I arrive at the show this weekend. There is no doubt EVs are super hot right now, and that means all types.

“Enquiries month-on-month have jumped to 220% across our EV range, with best-selling models at almost 300%. MG Motor is excited to be launching several new EVs over the coming months, specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of a fresh cohort of EV drivers ready to enjoy the real-world savings and lifestyle benefits of moving to electric, especially in the current climate,” said Dimitri Andreatidis, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia.

“A number of these, including the MG4 EV Urban, will be proudly on display at the Melbourne Motor Show this year.”

MG4 EV Urban

The MG4 EV Urban combines front-wheel drive electric with space for five adults and 382 litres of luggage capacity. It is available in dealerships now.

The MG4 EV is making its local debut at the Melbourne Motor Show, and it’s available in dealerships now. For 2026, the MG4 EV models include the rear-wheel drive Essence 64 and the all-wheel drive MG4 XPOWER. The Essence 64 delivers an improved range of up to 452 km from a single charge (WLTP combined).

Also making its first appearance in Australia at the Melbourne Motor Show is the MGS6 EV, a mid-size all-electric SUV. The MGS6 EV features a high-capacity battery delivering a driving range of up to approximately 530km (WLTP), while also supporting rapid charging from 10 to 80 per cent in around 38 minutes. The model is expected to be offered in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants.

Premium EV Technology Showcase

The LS9 is a large, high-tech, premium SUV, taking IM’s next-generation digital chassis technology to the next level. LS9 includes intelligent four-wheel steering and advanced driver assistance systems supported by lidar sensors and AI computing platforms designed to enable high-level automated driving features.

The LS9 is built on an advanced true 800-volt architecture and extended-range system, pairing electric motors with a range-extender powertrain capable of delivering up to 390kW of output and up to 670Nm of torque, while total combined range can extend up to 1,500km (CLTC) depending on configuration.

Inside, the vehicle emphasises a highly digital and premium cabin experience, with large integrated displays, advanced connectivity, and luxury seating configurations designed to position the LS9 as a flagship technology showcase within the broader MG ecosystem.

MG HS Hybrid+

MG HS Hybrid+

Rounding out the MG’s lineup in Melbourne is the MG HS Hybrid+. This hybrid family SUV combines a high-capacity battery with a powerful electric motor and turbocharged engine to deliver smooth, responsive performance and improved fuel efficiency.

With a combined output of up to 165kW and an advanced hybrid system that recharges while driving, the HS Hybrid+ is engineered to provide longer electric driving capability, seamless acceleration, and reduced fuel consumption.

“Not every driver is ready to go fully electric, and that’s where hybrids play an important role. Vehicles like the MG HS Hybrid+ provide a practical bridge, delivering strong efficiency gains without requiring changes to how drivers use their cars,” added Andreatidis.

“We’re thrilled to be able to demonstrate this hybrid model, alongside our EVs, for those attending the show.”

We’ll be covering the latest from MG and all the other brands and their latest technology over the weekend.
