As technology continues to advance, we’re spoiled for choice and in terms of monitors, there’s an absolute plethora of options; however, not all panels are created equal. The 27″ Odyssey OLED G6 QHD Gaming Monitor has a lot going for it, and I’ve spent the last few weeks with it on my desk for both productivity and gameplay. Yes, I’ll admit I spent more time testing this than I needed to, but I did have a lot of fun doing it.
SCREEN SPECS
The Samsung 27″ Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is targeted at elite gaming performance, leveraging a 27-inch Flat OLED panel with a QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution. The most critical specifications for competitive play are its maximum 500Hz refresh rate via DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 connections, and a near-instantaneous 0.03ms Grey-to-Grey (GtG) response time. This combination virtually eliminates motion blur and ghosting, providing an exceptionally smooth, responsive visual experience that is further enhanced by AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for tear-free gameplay. The monitor also features an OLED Glare Free (Matte) Display to reduce reflections and maintain image integrity in brightly lit environments.

Beyond speed, the Odyssey OLED G6 delivers impressive image quality, characterised by its OLED technology’s ability to produce infinite contrast with true blacks. It boasts great brightness levels and supports an expansive colour gamut, covering 99% DCI-P3 (CIE1976), along with HDR10+ Gaming for vibrant, detailed HDR content. To address potential display longevity concerns inherent to OLED technology, Samsung has integrated OLED Safeguard+ features, including a Dynamic Cooling System and Logo/Taskbar Detection algorithms.
CONNECTIVITY AND VERSATILITY
For connectivity, the monitor is well-equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone jack, and an integrated 2-port USB 3.0 Hub. The ergonomic stand offers an impressive range of height adjustment, pivot, tilt, and swivel capabilities for optimal viewing angles and comfort.

This range of options for connectivity delivers a lot of versatility too, particularly for users like myself who have a productivity and gaming environment that are separate machines on the same desk via a dock. This gives my eyes an easy time when I’m working and makes my gameplay so much more pleasurable.
COLOUR AND CONTRAST
OLED technology provides a vastly superior viewing experience due to its unique capabilities regarding colour and contrast. Unlike traditional displays that rely on a backlight, each OLED pixel is self-illuminating, meaning it can be individually turned completely off. This ability to display a true, infinite black results in an unprecedented contrast ratio, allowing bright elements to stand out dramatically against dark backgrounds without the light bleed or “halo” effect (blooming) seen on backlit displays. Furthermore, OLED panels are capable of rendering an extremely wide colour gamut—such as the 99% DCI-P3 coverage found in the Odyssey G6—allowing the display to reproduce colours with exceptional saturation, accuracy, and nuance, making the image incredibly lifelike. The perfect blacks, high contrast, and vivid colours reduce eye strain because the display presents images with natural depth and clarity, giving the eye a more comfortable and realistic viewing target, which is particularly beneficial during long gaming sessions.
GAMING VS PRODUCTIVITY: THE USER EXPERIENCE
There’s been a shift over the last generation of display hardware away from single connection, single purpose; leaving the door open for monitors like this one to span across applications.
The inclusion of “Eye Saver” mode is something I’ve used heavily during the workday since setting this up on my desk. It softens colours, reduces blue light output, and makes the — already quite lovely — visual experience, even easier on your eyes. I spend a lot of my workday looking at data, documents and lots of spreadsheets: So it’s important to me to have a quality monitor that is easy on my eyes – This was a big tick in the box.
After I finish work for the day however, the G6 really shows its capabilities. That colour and contrast stand out, with a high refresh rate and matte finish panel in delivering a visually stunning experience on the latest games such as Escape from Tarkov, Battlefield 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and a few classics.

After a solid gaming session, the screen does get quite warm, but not to a concerning degree. I only note this to make sure that users are aware of the heat and ensure adequate ventilation around the screen.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
At the time of publishing this review, the 27″ Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is priced at AU$1,499.00 but don’t forget to keep an eye out for sales dates.
CONCLUSION
The Odyssey OLED G6 isn’t trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does aim to do, it executes exceptionally well. It delivers elite-level gaming performance without sacrificing image quality or day-to-day usability, making it just as comfortable for long hours of productivity as it is for high-intensity play. At AU$1,499 it’s a premium investment, but one that’s justified by its blistering refresh rate, OLED contrast, thoughtful ergonomics, and genuine versatility. If you’re looking for a monitor that can anchor both your workday and your downtime without compromise, the Odyssey OLED G6 makes a very compelling case for itself.
