A new battlefront has opened up between the smartphone giants and Samsung has fired the first shot. The iPhone Air is expected to land later in the year but the Galaxy S25 Edge will be available from May 30 and it’s ridiculously thin and good looking.
How thin you ask?
Just 5.8mm while the S25 Ultra is 8.22mm. It’s also very light, just 163g while the S25 Ultra is 218g.

“Galaxy S25 Edge is more than a slim smartphone,” said TM Roh, President and Acting Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics
“S25 Edge not only marks a breakthrough for its category, but it also accelerates important innovation across the mobile industry.”
Remember bendgate?
Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices were also thin (6.9mm and 7.1mm) and susceptible to bending. But with stronger titanium frames nowadays – both Apple and Samsung can be confident their even thinner phones will stand up to any punishment. The latest Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 used for the front display also adds plenty of strength to the S25 Edge.
CAMERA

Galaxy S25 Edge benefits from the same ProVisual Engine that was optimised for Galaxy S25. Galaxy AI-powered editing features, including Audio Eraser and Drawing Assist have been ported over from the Galaxy S25 series.
The selfie camera is a 12MP f/2.2 wide-angle.
PERFORMANCE
It might be a little on the thin side but performance wise the Galaxy S25 Edge is beefy on the inside. It’s using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the same processor available in all Galaxy S25 series devices globally. The chipset powers the S25 Edge’s on-device AI processing capabilities. It also keeps its cool thanks to a reconfigured vapor chamber that is now thinner, yet wider for steady heat dissipation.
ProScaler delivers a 40% improvement in display image scaling quality, while incorporating Samsung’s customised mobile Digital Natural Image engine (mDNIe).

BATTERY
Obviously with a thinner phone, battery life will suffer. The S25 Edge has a meagre 3,900 mAh battery while the S25 Ultra sports a hefty 5,000 mAh battery,
GALAXY AI
Just like its thicker S25 mates, the Galaxy S25 Edge integrates AI agents that work seamlessly across multiple apps.
Galaxy S25 Edge also uses Gemini Live’s new camera and screen sharing abilities to show Gemini Live what they see on their screen. Recorded or live. On-device AI processing ensures data is secured by Samsung Knox Vault.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Galaxy S25 Edge is expensive. Starting from A$1,849 and topping out at A$2,049. You’re paying for a fashion statement and pretty decent performance. But you are taking a hit in the camera and battery departments.
It will be available from 30 May in Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack, and Titanium Icyblue.
