HMD Global has released a new repairable Nokia phone in Australia, the Nokia G42 5G.
The Nokia G42 5G – launched in ‘so purple’ – is the industry’s first sub-$450 smartphone with 5G connectivity to feature QuickFix repairability. Consumers, on their own, will be able to replace cracked screens, bent charging ports and batteries using HMD Global’s collaboration with iFixit.
Anyone can fix their Nokia G42 5G by using step-by-step repair guides and affordable replacement parts from A$42.99 RRP.
The Nokia G42 5G sells for A$449, includes a 50MP camera, 3-day battery life and Android 13. It’s 5G connectivity is powered by the Qualcomm®Snapdragon™ 480+ 5G Mobile Platform. The Nokia G42 5G battery will keep 80% of its original capacity after 800 full charging cycles – that’s about four years of charges.
It’s made with a 65% recycled back cover and boxed in FSC®-certified mixed packaging. It also comes with 3 years of monthly security updates, 2 years of OS upgrades and an industry-leading 3 year warranty.
“We are excited to bring the repairable Nokia G42 5G to the Australian market,” said Brenden Folitarik, HMD Global’s Country Manager for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
“The Nokia G42 5G offers both longevity and performance with the addition of 5G.”
The ‘So Purple’ launch colour was inspired by the 2023 Colour of the Year – Digital Lavender.
“It’s safe to say Purple is having a moment this year,” said Lars Silberbauer, CMO of HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones.
“Not only does the Nokia G42 5G look great, it’s also a continuation of our repairability journey which is now a fundamental part of the way we design smartphones.”
It made sense for HMD Global to use a respected and accessible repair system like iFixit.
“I’m thrilled to see how our partnership with HMD Global is turning the tide in favour of self-repairs,” Kyle Wiens, CEO, iFixit.
“This is not just about providing parts; it’s about seeding the DIY ethos among consumers and signalling that the era of self-service repairs is truly upon us.”
HMD Global has also recently launched its ‘Recycle To Win Competition’, teaming up with Clean Up Australia, Freely, Mobile Muster and Wander to reward Australian consumers who recycle their old mobile device through Mobile Muster. By recycling their phone, users go into the draw to a 4-day holiday in Kangaroo Island (SA) or Scenic Rim (QLD). The competition runs until October 18, 2023 and more information and how to enter can be found here.
