Samsung has announced the ‘budget-friendly’ Galaxy S26 FE will be available on September 4 from A$1,149. The question is: should you wait or buy Samsung’s S26 model while it’s on special for A$999?
The answer is…mmm maybe?
The “Fan Edition” phone offers some extras that you won’t find on the more elite S26 line. The table below breaks it down.
What you didn’t read in the table above is the fact that the FE model is the first in the S26 lineup to launch with One UI 9. That means enhanced camera capabilities and more context-aware Galaxy AI.

As always, the camera specs are our primary concern. You’ll get some really good results using the spec below, but they are mid-range.
Content Software
Just like the recently launched foldables, the S26 FE delivers a more capable camera experience.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE incorporates several advanced imaging and stabilisation technologies previously featured across the Galaxy lineup:
- Subject Tracking (FanCam): Automatically tracks and centres a selected subject, adjusting video framing in real time to minimise manual post-production.
- Video Stabilisation (Super Steady): Integrates Horizontal Lock to maintain level, stable footage during high-motion recording and transit.
- Optical and Front-Facing Hardware: Features a 3x optical zoom for distance photography alongside an upgraded 12MP front-facing sensor designed with a wider field of view for group capture.
- Low-Light Imaging (Nightography): Optimises exposure and detail retention in low-light environments.
- Post-Processing (Photo Assist): Uses natural language prompts to modify images—including lighting adjustments, object insertion, and content restoration—with support for step-by-step revision and undo functions.
Display and Battery

Galaxy AI
- Updated Now Brief, first introduced on the Galaxy S25 series, is even more personalised through customisable briefing cards like weather and wellness insights. Users can now create their own cards with a simple prompt, making Now Brief more relevant throughout the day.
- Now Nudge is expanded to select third-party apps and notifications, surfacing timely, relevant suggestions across more of the day, helping users turn insights into action and manage everyday routines with less friction.
- Circle to Search with Google now allows users to search for multiple items in an image at once, making it easier to identify products, places, objects, and more in a single step.
Pricing and Availability

Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE smartphone will give users a lot of the functionality you’ll also see in the top-tier models. The software is the latest and greatest, right out of the gate.
The hardware, however, is a significant step down from the main S26 line. The cameras will do an adequate job, but they won’t give you the results when better low-light performance or resolution is required.
You also need to consider the rapid drop in value for an FE phone. The S25 FE is selling for just A$599 at the time of publication.
