Image Matrix Tech will have a full review online shortly and live coverage on Sky News Weekend Edition this Sunday.
If you love street photography but need more megapixels without the bulk, then Fujifilm has the answer for you. The GFX100RF is the company’s first fixed-lens digital camera in the GFX System with a 102-megapixel CMOS II sensor.
The price? A$8,799.

“The GFX100RF signifies a new era for the GFX System of cameras. What we have learnt from the wildly successful X100 Series of cameras is that there is a need for high quality images, without having to change lenses, and this new camera is the culmination of that”, said Shaun Mah, General Manager of the Electronic Imaging & Optical Devices Division of Fujifilm Australia.
“With a 102MP large format sensor and 35mm (28mm equivalent) fixed lens, it is the perfect camera to accompany you at every step. It allows you to focus on the moments and the imagery, without having to carry more than you need, and without sacrificing the quality or colour science that Fujifilm is world renowned for.”

The GFX100RF uses the latest high-speed image processing engine ‘X-Processor 5’. The lens and body are approximately 735g, making it the lightest in the GFX System. It feels great in the hand and it looks the part too. It has a precisely machined aluminium top plate and that machining extends to components like the lens ring, dials, and bottom plate, enhancing the feel of the metal and delivering a unified design.
Fujifilm has included an ‘Aspect Ratio Dial,’ they love a dial, as do we! It allows the photographer to switch between nine shooting aspect ratios. Of course you could just shoot at the maximum setting then crop in post, but what fun would that be?
The newly developed 35mm F4 lens (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format) offers a wide shot but at F4, many shooters will be disappointed with its speed. There’s also no IBIS so anyone with shaky hand might need to look elsewhere. I shot a lot of images on film without IBIS back in the day so it’s no problem for me.

You’ll also get the latest AI-based subject detection Autofocus and high speed flash synchronisation due to the leaf shutter.
Video is limited to 4K/30p.
So why buy this camera? If you love the tactile feeling that old school street cameras offer then the GFX100RF could be for you. It’s got the looks and the value because even at A$8,799 it’s far cheaper than the Leica Q3 which sells for A$10,990.
You haven’t got long to wait, the retail date is April 7.
