Optus Revamps Business NBN: Lower Prices, Enhanced Value, and Streamlined Choices

5 Min Read

Optus has announced a significant overhaul of its NBN business plans, promising lower prices and boosted value for both business and consumer customers. The refreshed offerings aim to better support Australian small businesses with premium features at more accessible price points.

The new pricing structure maintains essential business-grade features, including high-speed connectivity and 4G backup via the supplied Wi-Fi 6 modems. The service also includes prioritised service levels with rapid fault restoration. These features are now available at reduced monthly costs on select plans, directly addressing the needs of cash-conscious business owners.

A core component of this refresh is the continuation of the Optus Bundle Bonus Program. This initiative provides a $15 monthly discount for 12 months when customers add additional eligible services, extending value to both new and existing business and consumer subscribers.

“At Optus, we’re all in for small businesses,” stated Emma Jensen, Vice President of Small Business at Optus. “We understand that connectivity is the backbone of every business, and that’s why we’re proud to offer Business nbn plans that deliver business-grade speeds, nbn prioritised fault restoration and built-in 4G backup for further resiliency. Whether you’re running a café, managing a retail store or working from home, our new plans are built to help keep your business connected when it matters most.”

The updated product portfolio also sees a significant simplification, reducing the number of both business and consumer NBN plans from nine to five, making it easier for customers to choose the right plan for their needs. Furthermore, enhanced data allowances are now included across connected devices.

Optus Business NBN plans come packed with features designed to keep businesses connected and productive. Customers can expect business-grade NBN speeds and reliability, including faster upload speeds on select plans, which are crucial for efficient cloud backups and seamless real-time collaboration. To ensure uninterrupted service, the plans also include 4G backup connectivity via Wi-Fi 6 modems, providing vital business continuity even if the primary NBN link experiences a disruption. Businesses will also benefit from a 24/7 dedicated business support team, ready to offer specialist assistance whenever needed, and robust Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that guarantee a 4-hour or 12-hour fault restoration, depending on the chosen plan, minimising downtime and maximising operational efficiency.

Pricing for Optus Business NBN Plans:

While specific updated pricing was not immediately available on the linked Optus Business website, previous and current promotional offers indicate the following range for Optus Business NBN plans. Like residential plans, NBN connections for businesses are subject to some speed caps based on connection type, such as HFC, FTTN or FTTC; each with its own issues and idiosyncrasies. You do, however, have some additional services available, such as a static IP, which is necessary for self-hosting certain service types.

It’s important to note that modem costs are often $0 if connected for 36 months, with the cost otherwise being around $300. The Bundle Bonus program can further reduce these monthly costs by $15 for 12 months when additional eligible services are added.

Additional Consumer Service Enhancements:

Beyond business, Optus has also improved its consumer NBN offerings, reducing plans from nine to four, all with powerful Wi-Fi modems. Mobile broadband data allowances are increasing to 30GB at $25/month, and are also eligible for the Bundle Bonus. Furthermore, a monthly content credit of $20 for streaming subscriptions via SubHub will be introduced on Consumer Promo and Ultrafast NBN plans. Automatic speed upgrades for eligible consumer customers on HFC and FTTP connections will also commence from September at no extra cost.

The new Business nbn plans are now available, with Bundle Bonus discounts applicable to qualifying existing customer accounts from their first billing cycle.
