Samsung has expanded its foldable lineup by adding a passport-sized device that fits between the flagship Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8. The Fold 8 has a 4:3/3:4 aspect ratio that makes more sense for video when opened in landscape or reading when in portrait orientation.

SAMSUNG UNPACKED KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: Samsung’s flagship foldable now 4.1mm thin.
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8: Samsung’s lightest Fold ever with ‘square’ frame.
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8: Samsung’s slimmest and lightest Flip yet.
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: Pro-level sports tracking, AI-powered health insights, an ultra-bright display and massive battery life.
  • Galaxy Watch 9: Samsung’s everyday wellness companion, combining AI-powered health intelligence, all-day comfort and continuous health tracking.
  • Intelligent Eyewear: Building on the concepts announced at the latest Google I/O, the new designs were developed with global eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 8 ULTRA

Samsung has upgraded the impossibly thin Fold 7 to the Fold 8 Ultra while shaving another millimetre off its thickness. The Fold 8 Ultra is now just 4.1mm. This, of course, means the camera bump sticks out further than before, and like before, the Fold 8 Ultra won’t sit flat on a table.

Incredibly, Samsung has been able to include a bigger battery this year. Increasing from 4400 mAh to 5000 mAh. The battery type has also been upgraded to Silicon-carbon.

Perhaps the biggest upgrade is the display, or more accurately the support structure that makes up the display. Samsung Flex Titanium technology integrates two titanium-based components — a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate — working together to balance slimness, flexibility, and strength within the foldable display structure.

The titanium-alloy film is a component that supports the display from within, sitting below the OLED panel. A precision rolling process makes the material exceptionally thin, enabling a slimmer display panel. Below this sits a robust titanium plate, a flexible structure that supports the display module from beneath. It allows tighter bonding with the display module by eliminating air gaps between the module and the adhesive on the plate through advanced hole processing technology. This new structure helps provide more stable support underneath the display when unfolded while retaining the flexibility needed to accommodate repeated folding.

This does not eliminate the crease, but it does minimise its impact. For the record, the crease will never be totally eliminated, so don’t ever believe hype that suggests it has been done.

You’ll also get Android 17, up to seven major upgrades, and One UI 9. Powering the system is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

The Fold 8 Ultra camera array gets another bump this year with the ultrawide lens increasing to 50 MP, up from 12 MP. It’s good to see the Samsung Fold flagship inching closer to the camera setup of the S-series.

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 8

The Z Fold 8 is going to be the smash hit of the Samsung foldables product line. It feels good in the hand. There’s something about this form factor that just works.

Unfolding the device expands the display to a 4:3 aspect ratio, ideal for watching movies or playing games. Rotating the device switches to a 3:4 aspect ratio that feels more natural for reading e-books or browsing the web. The cover screen’s 10:16 aspect ratio also provides a familiar experience for browsing short-form content.

A 4,800mAh battery supports more than 26 hours of video playback. Weighing just 201 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. It also benefits from Samsung’s Flex Titanium Technology. The Fold 8 also gets Android 17, up to seven major upgrades, and One UI 9. And just like the Ultra, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy powers the system.

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 8

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is just 6.1 mm thick when unfolded, which is a 4 mm downsizing from the Flip 7. It’s also 8 grams lighter this year with a stronger frame.

App functionality also extends to FlexWindow. Without unfolding the device, users can browse photos in the Gallery app, chat with friends through messaging apps, and quickly complete tasks. More than a hub for notifications and widgets, FlexWindow has evolved into a gateway to more of what Galaxy has to offer.

The camera experience has also been refined to better complement the Galaxy Z Flip form factor. Camcorder Grip — exclusive to the Galaxy Z Flip series — enables stable one-handed recording, while Super Steady’s horizontal lock helps keep footage smooth and level, even on the move.

Dual Recording captures both the creator and the subject in the same video, perfect for vlogs and social media challenges. Opening the Camera app displays the creator’s view at the top of the screen and the subject’s view below, allowing both perspectives to be recorded simultaneously. A live preview is also available on the cover screen, so both can see the shot while filming.

In short, the user can do a lot more with the Flip 8 without unfolding it.

GALAXY WATCH 9 ULTRA 2

Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is the first Galaxy Watch powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon® Wear Elite Platform,  delivering fast performance and precise GPS tracking. Its 800mAh battery offers 35% more capacity than the previous generation’s. The display reaches up to 5,000 nits of brightness — a first for a smartwatch — making on-screen information easy to read even under bright lighting.

Despite its larger battery, the watch is 12% thinner than the previous generation thanks to component optimisation and an internal redesign. The band is 26% lighter with a new air pocket structure, providing a secure yet comfortable fit.

Trail Run, a new feature exclusive to Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, offers real-time insights including detailed elevation data, climbing progress and cumulative ascent and descent distance. With this information, users can gauge workout intensity and adjust their pace accordingly.

From the moment users enter the water, it automatically records depth, dive time and water temperature. Backed by EN13319 certification for diving instruments, along with 10ATM water resistance and an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance, the device is engineered to support safe underwater activities. Furthermore, in collaboration with global diving equipment brand Mares, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will support advanced diving features — including real-time ascent and descent rates as well as safety decompression time.

During workouts, users can take advantage of hydration guidance, newly added to Nutrition Alert. Based on sweat loss relative to body weight, it calculates recommended fluid intake in real time to help users stay hydrated during extended exercise sessions.

GALAXY WATCH 9

Powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, Galaxy Watch9 features a 390mAh battery with 20% more capacity than the previous generation’s to support fast performance and consistent health monitoring throughout the day.

Key health metrics measured during sleep can be viewed at a glance in Vitals. Using heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen saturation, Galaxy Watch 9 establishes a personalised baseline to help identify meaningful changes in health.

INTELLIGENT EYEWEAR

Building on the concepts announced at the latest Google I/O, the new designs were developed with global eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The intelligent eyewear shows how the Galaxy ecosystem can move beyond the mobile phone and into eyewear that supports daily routines, work, travel, and hands-free moments.

  • Designed for everyday use, the eyewear pairs a lightweight frame and slim profile with the durability and comfort needed for daily wear.
  • Developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, the eyewear reflects each brand’s expertise in design, offering a range of frame styles, colours, and lens options to suit different preferences and lifestyles.

“As agentic AI reshapes mobile experiences, the next step is to make those experiences more intuitive and responsive to each user’s context,” said Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Intelligent eyewear creates a new point of interaction, bringing more personalised AI assistance naturally into the moments that make up everyday life.”
