OPPO has announced that its Reno16 Series will launch in Australia on 23 July, introducing two new smartphones that place artificial intelligence at the centre of mobile photography and content creation. The lineup consists of the premium Reno16 Pro and the more affordable Reno16 F, both featuring high-resolution cameras, AI-powered editing tools, and large batteries, aimed at users who regularly create and share content on their phones.

OPPO Reno16 Pro

The Reno16 Pro is the flagship of the range and introduces a premium design featuring OPPO’s new 3D Pop Planet finish, which creates a shifting holographic effect as light moves across the rear of the device. It features a compact 6.32-inch display housed within an aerospace-grade aluminium frame, making it easier to use one-handed while maintaining a premium feel.

The Reno16 Pro looks the part for a high end device

Photography is one of the Reno16 Pro’s biggest selling points. Alongside a 50-megapixel ultra-wide selfie camera with a 100-degree field of view, the rear camera system includes a 200-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation, a telephoto portrait lens offering around 3.5x optical zoom and an ultra-wide camera. The high-resolution main sensor provides greater flexibility for cropping and reframing images without sacrificing detail.

The Reno16 Pro also benefits from OPPO’s latest AI editing suite. Features such as AI Remix Collage and Popout Collage 2.0 allow users to create animated collages, extract moving subjects from videos and Motion Photos, and build more dynamic social media content directly within the Photos application.

Performance is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 platform, complemented by AI HyperBoost 3.0, enhanced cooling and support for refresh rates up to 144Hz in compatible games. A 6,000mAh battery supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, while AI LinkBoost 4.0 aims to provide more reliable wireless performance in congested environments. The handset also carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for water and dust resistance.

OPPO Reno16 F

The Reno16 F brings many of the Reno16 Series’ core features to a lower price point while making only modest compromises. It features a larger 6.57-inch display and retains the same distinctive Pop Planet design language introduced across the new lineup.

Like its more expensive sibling, the Reno16 F includes a 50-megapixel ultra-wide selfie camera and a triple rear camera system consisting of a high-resolution main camera with optical image stabilisation, a telephoto portrait camera and an ultra-wide lens. While it doesn’t receive the 200-megapixel sensor found in the Pro model, it still offers the same AI-powered editing tools for creating collages, animated stickers and social media-ready content without relying on external editing applications.

The Reno16 F in pop white is very eye-catching

The Reno16 F is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy platform, designed to deliver reliable everyday performance for photography, streaming, gaming and multitasking. It also boasts the largest battery in the range at 6,500mAh, providing additional endurance for users who spend long periods away from a charger. Like the Pro model, it includes AI LinkBoost 4.0 and carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO Reno16 Series will be available in Australia from 23 July 2026.

The Reno16 Pro has a recommended retail price of AU$1,599 and will be offered in Pop White and Starlight Black through JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and the OPPO Australia online store.

The Reno16 F will retail for AU$999 and will be available in Pop White and Twilight Violet through JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys and the OPPO Australia online store.

Conclusion

Rather than relying solely on hardware improvements, the Reno16 Series demonstrates OPPO’s increasing focus on integrating artificial intelligence into everyday smartphone use. Both devices combine capable camera systems with on-device AI editing tools that reduce the need for separate editing software, while larger batteries and durable designs aim to support creators throughout a full day of shooting and sharing. The Reno16 Pro targets users seeking flagship-level photography and performance, while the Reno16 F delivers many of the same AI experiences at a considerably lower entry price, giving Australian consumers two distinct options depending on their budget and priorities.
