As internet speeds continue to increase across Australia, D-Link has announced the new D-Link DPN-BE7212GR BE7200 10G Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router. It arrives as Australians gain access to NBN plans offering speeds of up to 2Gbps. Rather than focusing solely on faster wireless performance, the new router is designed to remove another potential bottleneck: the network hardware inside the home.
The Hardware
One of the standout features is the inclusion of both a 10 Gigabit WAN port for high-speed internet connectivity and a dedicated 10 Gigabit LAN port for local networking. While most households won’t immediately need 10Gbps networking, the additional bandwidth provides room for faster internet services in the future, as well as high-speed transfers between compatible devices such as network-attached storage (NAS), gaming PCs and workstations.
The router also includes four additional Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port, while internally it uses a quad-core processor and dedicated memory to manage multiple connected devices and heavy network traffic.
Wireless connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology. D-Link says the router delivers combined wireless speeds of up to 7.2 Gbps across the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. While real-world speeds will depend on connected devices and internet plans, Wi-Fi 7 introduces improvements such as Multi-Link Operation, which allows compatible devices to use multiple frequency bands simultaneously for lower latency and more consistent performance during activities like gaming and high-resolution video streaming.
The router is also designed to grow with larger homes through EasyMesh support. Users can add additional compatible D-Link units to create a whole-home mesh network with seamless roaming between rooms. For homes already wired with Ethernet, routers can also be linked via an optional 10 Gigabit wired backhaul, allowing each mesh node to communicate at full 10 Gbps speeds while providing high-speed wired connections in multiple rooms.
Security and Control
Beyond raw performance, D-Link has included several features aimed at everyday users. WPA3 encryption provides the latest wireless security standard, guest networking helps keep visitor devices separate from personal equipment, and parental controls allow internet access schedules to be managed for family members. Setup and ongoing management are handled through the D-Link Wi-Fi Assist app, available for both Android and iOS.
The router also supports Smart VPN functionality, allowing compatible VPN connections to be managed at the router level rather than requiring VPN software on every device.
