Insta360 has a hit on its hands with its Luna Ultra dual-lens handheld gimbal camera because it finally delivers more than just a wide-angle experience. The company beat arch rival DJI to market, and as a result, more people are getting their creative juices flowing.
Here are just a few of the key features that make the Insta360 Luna Ultra a compelling product:
- Dual lens design with Leica Summicron lenses
- 1-inch 8K main camera
- 1/1.3″ camera with telephoto lens enabling natural bokeh across five focal lengths, with up to 12× zoom, including 6× lossless zoom
- 3-axis motorised stabilisation
- detachable OLED touchscreen which doubles as a wireless microphone
- 8K30fps recording with Dolby Vision and support for 10-bit I-Log capture
- 37MP UltraPhotos and 200MP Scenic Panorama photos
- Up to 14 stops of dynamic range
- Deep Track 5.0 enables precise subject tracking
- Built-in storage provides 47GB of usable space, with support for up to 1TB via microSD
- POV Head Tracker for hands-free capture
The Luna Ultra is not only fun to use, it’s a vital part of any creator’s kit. I’ve just returned from a photo assignment, and the Luna Ultra was the ideal ‘cameraman’ for a solo shooter like myself. I could place it on a fence post and record myself walking with a large camera, then stopping to take pictures. Throw in some smooth tracking, and I had a great way to tell my story, which is a behind-the-scenes documentary of Fujinon Lenses in action.

“Luna Ultra marks Insta360’s arrival in the gimbal camera space, backed by the full strength of our imaging expertise,” said Max Richter, VP of Marketing and Co-Founder of Insta360.
“We believe this category is ready for a new standard, defined by smarter technology, stronger performance, and a more intuitive user experience. Luna reflects our vision for the future of gimbal imaging, built to help people capture what matters with greater ease, confidence, and authenticity.”
