Insta360, a global leader in action cams, has announced its new flagship 360 camera, X6. The X6 has a compact design but far more power compared with other models.
“X6 is the camera we always wanted to build. It captures everything around you, in any light, and hands you a finished edit before you even reach for your phone,” said JK Liu, Founder of Insta360.

Image Quality
The X6 is a massive upgrade when it comes to image capture. It has 1-Inch equivalent 360 imaging through dual custom Sony 1/1.1″ square sensors. They have been co-developed with Sony exclusively for Insta360 . This new square chip means 33% greater use of the sensor area.
It has two dedicated imaging chips for a cleaner recording and Qualcomm’s flagship 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm chip to deliver computational power, energy efficiency, and longer battery life. A new low-light mode adds two ambient light sensors to cut flicker and pull more out of night scenes.
AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens on its own and captures two exposures per frame for wider dynamic range. The X6 is also the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision and 10-bit Colour Depth for 360 Cameras.
Audio
The X6 has a 360 omnidirectional windproof array of four mics, plus a separate Hidden Engine Mic tuned specifically for motorcycle riders that filters wind and isolates engine sound. Intelligent Audio Mode reads the environment and adjusts automatically. For pro sound, connect two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters at once through Direct Connect.
Stabilisation
Stable footage from a 360 video shoot is essential. FlowState stabilisation and 360 Horizon Lock keep footage smooth and level. NFC touch-to-connect pairs X6 fast, Wi-Fi 6.0 moves files wirelessly at 100MB/s, USB 3.0 hits 450MB/s wired, and improved Bluetooth pairs in five seconds and reconnects in under one.
Shooting Modes
360: Resolution matters but so does frame rate when it comes to 360 video. 8K/50p helps to preserve detail and 50p makes for smoother motion.
InstaFrame 2.0: This function has been rebuilt from scratch, offering Flat 4K + 360 Video 8K Backup 30/25/24fps. Smart tracking has been upgraded to lock onto people, pets, or objects for auto-following and smooth, stable footage, delivering high-quality 4K/30p flat video with no post-shooting framing, operating as a gimbal camera.
Single Lens: Switch to single-lens and shoot like a traditional action camera at up to 5K/60p, wide-angle up to 170 degrees (at 5K/30p, or 4K120fps for slow motion).
Hardware
The 2.32″ OLED screen is very bright, reaching 1200 nits peak brightness. It stays always-on, and Full Screen Press keeps controls responsive with gloves on.
A new 2600mAh Xtreme Battery records 140 minutes of 8K/30p 360 video on a charge, 51% longer than X5. It fast charges from empty to 80% in 24 minutes. It stays reliable down to -20°C / -4°F. Insta360’s patented Star-Ridge cooling runs 10% more efficiently than competing 360 cameras and adds an insulated grip, so sustained 8K recording stays cool and steady.
Replaceable Lens 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant, sized for travel, and 60% cheaper to replace than the previous generation. X6 is waterproof to 20m bare (IP68) and to 60m with the Invisible Dive Case Pro, and it carries 47GB of usable built-in storage out of 64GB total, so you can shoot with no SD card in the camera.
Don’t Worry About Editing
Insta360’s self-developed 360 AI model, PanoMind, powers a set of brand-new auto-editing functions to simplify 360.
PanoMind, made internally by Insta360, was trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across 30+ common scenarios (travel, daily vlogs, skiing, motorcycling, diving, and cycling), and is the first 360-native AI model to understand a full spherical scene rather than a flat frame. Pretty neat.
- AI Director :Allows the X6 to automatically analyse footage, filter highlights, and edit custom daily vlogs while idling and charging. Once the finished clip is complete, it will be pushed directly to the Insta360 App. If you want to redo the clip, that’s not a problem.
- Auto Edit 2.0: Auto Edit 2.0 sees more accurate highlight recognition and more natural movement. Simply select footage and click Auto Edit.
- Moments Pro: This AI model integrates with Google Gemini cognitive model and Insta360’s 360 imaging algorithm to create custom stylised finished clips by selecting keywords. This is next-gen stuff.
Pro Level Post Work
X6 gives pros plenty of latitude when it comes to post production. I-Log will capture maximum dynamic range, recording in 10-bit colour. Insta360 Studio remains free on Mac and Windows for multi-clip 360 editing, stitching, and export.

X6 works with more than 100 accessories. It connects through the same magnetic mounting ecosystem, which stays compatible with X5, X4 Air, and Ace series mounts.

Conclusion
I’ve had a chance to see X6 and give it a quick demo. It has a similar build to the DJI Osmo 360, but it feels very much like an Insta360 device.
If you’ve already got a stack of Insta360 mounts and you’re considering whether to upgrade, I’d say do it. This is a beast of a camera that will not miss a thing.
