Single use household batteries have been a nightmare for the planet. Often discarded in landfill, they pose a toxic threat to the environment due to their throwaway nature. Even rechargeable AA and AAA batteries have been a problem for decades due to the various branded charging systems that also find their way into the rubbish bin.
So it was pleasing to see Australian tech business Laser Corporation release its eco-friendly ReChargeCore Batteries last week. Their rechargeable batteries come with a USB-C port and cable for fast and easy charging. All you need is a phone charger or spare USB port with power and away you go.
Available in AA or AAA battery types, they are ideal for toys and other gadgets. I’ve already made use of the AAA versions in my TV remotes. Although the upfront cost works out to be a $7.50 per battery in a four-pack, in the long run, you could be saving big dollars given the 1,000 recharge cycles. The inbuilt USB-C port makes the whole recharging process painless while reducing e-waste at the same time.
