New data from Tasmania Police and Motorola Solutions is showing how Tasmanians are turning smartphones into crime-fighting devices. Over four years, Tasmanians have embraced the Crime Stoppers Tasmania online crime-reporting portal powered by Motorola Solutions.
84 per cent of all crime tips received across the state in 2025 were made digitally, and Tasmania Police drew 35 per cent of its collective intelligence directly from the portal.
“Technology that streamlines the flow of intelligence between communities and the police helps to make Tasmania safer and more prosperous for everyone,” said Crime Stoppers Chair David Daniels OAM.

“Our online crime reporting portal has made it quick, easy, and safe for community members to share vital information with law enforcement.”
The tool enables tipsters to anonymously upload media from their phones, providing investigators with immediate context during incidents.
“If you’ve filmed it, seen it, or received it, report it to Crime Stoppers rather than posting it on social media,” said TAS Police Commander Joanne Stolp.

“You can submit information completely anonymously. Every tip helps build a clearer intelligence picture, enabling Tasmania Police to identify patterns, advance investigations, and protect our communities.”
The portal makes it easy for community members to share high-quality digital information. 24 per cent of all reports received now include photos or videos uploaded directly by community members.
An independent report commissioned by Motorola Solutions showed 86% of Australians are comfortable sharing their location data with public safety agencies during emergencies, while 58% support using AI to detect critical keywords like knife or collision in emergency calls.

Every tip strengthens the collective safety network, helping law enforcement identify emerging trends, solve cases faster, and protect neighbourhoods.
“Many emergency services across Australia and New Zealand are currently evaluating next-generation call-handling technologies,” said Con Balaskas, managing director, Motorola Solutions Australia and New Zealand.

“Modern systems that integrate public data with operational workflows – and use AI responsibly to highlight critical information – will relieve pressure on call handlers and help to save lives.”
Image Matrix Tech also saw how the next generation of command centre technology will soon make crime reporting faster and more accurate in Australia and New Zealand.
Keep an eye out for that video coming soon.
